Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I get started?
Most insurance plans require a referral from a physician for physical therapy coverage, which you will need to bring on your first visit. After that, all you need to do is call the office and schedule an appointment. Therapy Works is open Monday through Friday from 7AM to 7PM. Morning and early evening appointments are usually in high demand. The first visit will be your longest, about 60 minutes so we may need some flexibility when scheduling. Follow-up appointments will be much easier to fit into your schedule.
  • What happens on my first visit?
The receptionist will ask you for a copy of your insurance card, a form of identification (drivers license), and any referral you may have been given from your physician. We have brief registration forms to fill out, which you may complete before arriving by printing from the "Forms" page, here.
We will bring you into a private treatment room where the therapist will ask about your injury history and any symptoms you may be having. The evaluation process includes range of motion, strength testing and several other aspects to allow for a complete plan of care for your condition. We will explain your problem, treatment and the goals for you as well as any options available.
Most of our patients prefer to get started with treatment on the first day. If this does not fit your schedule, let us know and we can find a time convenient to begin. In addition to treatment the therapist will issue a program for you to begin with at home, designed to help speed your recovery.
The receptionist will schedule any follow-up appointments at your convenience and discuss any copay or financial aspects of your plan. You will stay with your Physical Therapist each appointment unless you approve a different time. We are open Monday through Friday from 7AM to 7PM and are very flexible.
  • How should I dress?
Loose, comfortable clothing is best. Shorts are needed if the problem is your hip or knee. You may bring your own or we have several sizes available.
  • Will insurance cover my visits?
Physical therapy is a covered service under almost all plans. We will verify your benefits including any co-pay, deductible or visit limitations. If you would like to know before beginning, please call the office with your information and we will get it for you. Most insurance cards have a customer service phone number on the back you can also call to get your plan information.
    - We will get all prior authorized visits while you are under our care.
    - Workman's Compensation
    - If this is a Workman's Compensation injury, please inform our office when you call as we frequently need visits authorized before you arrive.
    - Motor Vehicle Accident
    - If you have an accident claim, we will need a copy of your motor vehicle declaration page to verify whether medical payments are included. If not, treatment is to be covered by the individual's personal health plan.

  • Do you communicate with my Doctor?
An initial evaluation with plan of care will be sent to your referring physician after your first visit. A progress report with recommendations will be sent every thirty days or whenever you see the doctor for a follow-up appointment.
  • Do I need a referral to begin Physical Therapy?
Connecticut no longer requires patients to see a physician prior to an evaluation by a Physical Therapist. Coverage by your insurance carrier may vary dependent upon your plan. Please call our office so we can help clarify your benefits. If you choose to see your physician first and would like to bring a referral, you can print ours from here.
